Like mr. Fosbury, we aim to rethink something that is conventional. How can we redesign our work environment? How can we reorganise our work-life balance into harmony?

Let’s create this new inspiring work environment responding to the needs of todays generation. We believe in a human and holistic approach with a touch of rock & roll. So, welcome to all those who think out of conventions, who think different and are changing the world.

Our company name Fosbury & Sons is a tribute to mr. Dick Fosbury, who changed the world of high jump competition. As a high school student, Fosbury had trouble with the conventional high jump “straddle” method and failed to even clear 1,5 meters in his attempts. He started tinkering with his approach, and eventually invented the now-dominant style of jumping backwards over the bar, a technique that became known as the “Fosbury Flop.” A few years later, he won high jump gold at the 1968 games, setting an Olympic record with a 2,24 meter leap. Up untill today it has become the standard jump method.

BECAUSE THE OFFICE AS YOU KNOW IT IS DEAD

Copenhagen and Tel Aviv are a visible aspect of this evolution. It may not be a coincidence that Antwerp just received the 2015 Startup Nations Award. 


The way an office mostly looks like today, or the way an office is organized, isn’t responding to the needs of today’s and upcoming generation, called Generation Y. Unfortunately most offices carry out the gray traditional atmosphere, the static work environment and the rigid mentality of the 60’s.

With nearly three hours lost per day to office-related interruptions and distractions, a traditional office space is no longer considered the most productive. These lost hours cost businesses over millions per year. But, while face-to-face communication is still important and necessary, it is also important for companies to understand employees’ needs by providing flexible work environments and empowering them to decide how and where they will be most productive. So with that said, an office with an actual desk and physically commuting to a nine-to-five job might soon be a mythical story that sounds as fantastical as seeing a unicorn.

Workers are considerably rejecting the uninspiring sea of sameness that has come to be known as “the office.” Standardized for efficiency, this uniform approach limits the potential for inspiration, creativity and social connection with others. Instead, workers are seeking authenticity, self-expression, and the freedom to choose where and how they work.

Time is our most precious possession, let’s spend it worthily. 

International research points out that a significant shift is appearing on the labor market. The European organisation EFIP speaks of an increase of 53% of the amount of freelancers in Belgium between 2004 and 2013. Unizo calculated that anno 2015 there are 132000 freelancers active in Flanders. It is not a typical Belgian phenomenon, it is a global evolution. In the USA freelancing is the ‘new normal’. This evolution significantly indicates that people are searching for autonomy. Moreover, autonomy is exactly what defines us as human beings. 

Furthermore we see an increase in small scale businesses. Companies of 2 to 8 persons is now a more common phenomenon than 30 years ago.

Fosbury & Sons will be your host on the 1st floor of the WATT building in Antwerp. 
The space is designed as a 3000 square meter professional, but cosy village assembled by work & social spaces, accessible 24/7. 
We create a cosy meeting place, providing an inspiring platform for lectures, product presentations, press releases, movie screenings, little living room concerts, private events, brainstorms and business meetings.
